It’s no surprise that relocating a business is stressful. It’s the same as moving house or starting a new job – everything has to be perfect in order for the cogs of a machine to start turning, so relocating your firm is no different. There may be a great number of reasons why your business has to relocate – your firm has outgrown its current surroundings or a lease on the current property has become too expensive. Either way, there are a number of factors to bare in mind.
First off, where are going to relocate? There are a number of adequate business locations – Kent, London, Manchester, Birmingham – across the UK but you have to make sure any potential location is right for your business. If you’re feeling financially flush and can afford expensive property lease fees, then London could be the place for you. However, if you want to relocate to an up and coming business capital, Kent might be more suitable.
Of course, a relocation is a long process and it shouldn’t get in the way of day-to-day business dealings. For this, you may need a number of experts to keep the clockhands ticking in the event of a relocation. All key departments (like HR, IT or sales, for example) must all be kept informed of relocation developments while all staff will need to be given the option of relocation or redundancy. It’s a tough process and not every staff member is going to be happy with the outcome – but that’s business.
Some relocation specialists suggest offering a Welcome Pack to members of staff relocating to the new premises in order to boost motivation. It’s going to take some time for IT systems and staff integration to be fully up and running but it will be the best for a business in the long term.
